This Privacy Policy explains how Hook a Book collects, uses, and protects personal information when readers, authors, and administrators use the platform.
1. Information We Collect
We may collect account information such as your name, email address, password login credentials handled through our authentication provider, profile photo, biography, social media links, and account role. We also collect platform activity such as ARC downloads, review submissions, referral activity, points history, rewards redemptions, notification subscriptions, and author or reader approval status.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to operate the platform, manage reader and author access, track reviews and rewards, send account-related emails, deliver optional push notifications, review applications, prevent misuse, and improve the service. Social links may also be used by administrators to verify reader or author eligibility.
3. Notifications and Emails
If you enable push notifications, we store browser subscription data so we can send alerts about ARCs, rewards, referrals, approvals, and other account activity. We may also send emails for account confirmation, password resets, invitations, approval updates, and platform notifications.
4. Storage of Uploaded Media
Profile images and book cover images uploaded through the platform are stored using Supabase Storage. Uploaded images may be resized or compressed before storage. When a relevant profile image or book is replaced or deleted, associated stored media may also be removed.
5. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information. Information may be shared with service providers that support the platform, such as hosting, authentication, storage, push notification, and email delivery providers. Reader-facing leaderboards may display public-facing names or nicknames rather than email addresses.
6. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as needed to operate the platform, maintain reward and review records, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Some activity history, such as earned points or redeemed rewards, may be retained even if related books are archived or deleted.
7. Your Choices
You may update your account profile information within the platform. You can also disable push notifications through your device or browser settings. If you wish to request deletion of your account or have questions about your data, you should contact the platform administrator using the support details made available by the service.
8. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational steps to protect personal information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for notifying the platform if you believe your account has been compromised.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, the latest version published on this page will apply going forward.
